BAMT offers advice and support when setting up jobs and during employment. There is a great wealth of specialised knowledge in different fields of employment accessible within BAMT, so we can provide information, particularly when creating a new job. The BAMT Employment Liaison Officer can offer advice and support. For further information about setting up a music therapy post, please email info@bamt.org
There are several ways you can support BAMT:
If you are an individual interested in music therapy and in promoting the Objects of BAMT, you are welcome to join BAMT as an individual associate member.
Music therapy can affect the whole individual, but it cannot be guaranteed to make the individual 'whole'; a number of conditions may be irreversible. In some instances, music therapy can monitor deterioration, while acting as a healing agent in others.
Music therapy is not a substitute for music lessons. Clients will often acquire certain musical skills in the course of a music therapy programme, such as sensitivity to pitch, rhythmic control, and awareness of form. These skills, whilst constituting an important part of the therapy programme, are likely to be secondary to pre-determined therapeutic objectives.
Each therapy programme is shaped according to the individual service user's needs and the therapist's approach. Elements within the therapeutic relationship generally include musical improvisation using instruments and voice. The music made may be verbally reflected upon depending on the approach of the therapist. Music therapy might be offered in groups or individually which would be decided upon after assessment.
If you need to contact a music therapist to arrange music therapy sessions, please see our Find a Therapist page. If you are an organisation wishing to advertise a music therapy post, please contact our Admin Team info@bamt.org
The benefits gained from music therapy may be as varied as the needs of the service user accessing the service.
