Alphonso completed his MA in Music Therapy with Distinction at UWE Bristol and is registered with the HCPC. He works independently as Living Well Through Music, based in Wiltshire, with children, young people, and adults across a wide range of settings including adopted young people, those with autism, complex communication needs, acquired brain injury, trauma, and serious illness.

His research and advocacy interests include music, health and wellbeing, and the psychosocial dimensions of serious illness. He is a prostate cancer survivor and a published author, with a chapter appearing in The Role of Music in Health and Wellbeing Journeys (Routledge, 2026). In March 2026 he presented to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Prostate Cancer at Portcullis House, leading directly to a question being raised in the House of Commons, with his name now in Hansard.

Alphonso is UK Collaboration Lead for Jazz for Prostate Cancer Awareness, a patient champion for Prostate Cancer UK and Prostate Cancer Research, and co-leads the Wiltshire Aphasia Choir. He also serves as Chair of Trustees at Music Therapy Lambeth. As a musician, he plays across multiple genres including jazz, classical, Brazilian, and Irish styles, and released his debut improvised jazz EP Liminal Spaces in 2025.
