Session 1 - How to work with individual clients
with head injuries. The aim is to
help clients regain communication
skills using music as a non-verbal
communication tool between client
and therapist.
Session 2 - Working with individuals who may
f i n d m u s i c a n d s o u n d s
discomforting. Learn how to work
in a non-intrusive manner, using
music to comfort, enabling the
client to observe and be receptive
to sound safely.

Session 3 - Workshop on group dynamics and
how to keep pupils/clients
interested in music making.
Introducing different musical styles
to meet group and individual
needs, while focusing on wellbeing. The aim of this workshop is
to bring happiness and positive
change to client and therapist.
Session 4
Listening and enhancing the
d e v e l o p m e n t o f e m p a t h y,
awareness and musical skills in
improvisation. Through non-verbal
music improvisation we will work
on group compositions. There will
be opportunities for discussion and
a final performance.
Risenga Makondo is an accomplished
composer, musician, dancer, and
workshop facilitator. He plays and
teaches a range of African musical
instruments, jazz double bass and
belongs to Camden Symphony
Orchestra. He's a full time African
music facilitator for Hertfordshire
Music Service and designed an
educational program for the service -
Creative Music Nurture Group - to
prevent young people from school
exclusion. The program uses music
therapy methods and African music
techniques and has been adapted by
other music services nationally.
Risenga has done workshops for
BAMT, Roehampton University,
Nordoff-Robbons, the World Congress
of Music Therapy, Music Space, and
Sound Wave South West.
