Launch of the Clinical Supervision Competency Framework

12 January 2026

BAMT is delighted to confirm the introduction of the newly developed Clinical Supervision Competency Framework. Following the initial announcement in October 2025, the implementation of this framework will officially commence on 1st February 2026.

Following the implementation of this framework, several aspects of the application criteria and conditions of entry have been revised.

The primary changes are outlined below; however, please refer to the website for the full details:

• An improved application process requiring an online application form and online CV to be completed

• Changes to the length of qualification and the number of hours of clinical supervision received before an application to the register can be made

• New CPD requirements to be evidenced ideally at the point of application or no later than the 12months of the date of submission

• The provision of two referees

Music Therapists who are already listed on the BAMT Clinical Supervision and Consultation Register are asked to ensure that all listed CPD requirements are fulfilled. If these requirements have not yet been met, members are expected to complete the outstanding CPD activities within a three-year timeframe. This approach is designed to help all registered therapists meet and maintain the necessary standards for effective clinical supervision, in line with the revised framework.

The website is currently undergoing updates to reflect the revised information associated with the Clinical Supervision Competency Framework and changes to the application process. These updates are to be completed within the next few weeks, ensuring that all details are accurate and readily accessible for prospective applicants and existing members.

Applications to the Clinical Supervision and Consultation Register will officially re-open on 1st February 2026, aligning with the commencement of the new framework.

Finally, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude and thanks to the members of the Clinical Supervision Advisory Group for their work in producing the framework and to the member of the Clinical Supervision Working group for their help and assistance with updating the application process and related documentation.

If any member has any questions or would like further information about the framework or the application process, please do not hesitate to contact wendyruck@bamt.org
