Jane Carmichael grew up in Atlanta and started her working life as a financial journalist in New York. She then earned an MBA (specialising in finance and accounting) from Columbia University and worked for 17 years as a business strategy consultant based in New York and London, with clients all over the world. As a partner in two consulting firms she participated actively in firm management, helping to develop knowledge-sharing and appraisal processes and contributing to practice development. She subsequently earned a law degree from Cambridge University and qualified as a solicitor, working in-house in central government and in financial conduct regulation until her retirement in 2018.
Jane learned to play four musical instruments to varying levels of proficiency in her youth, and now sings in a community choir. She is particularly interested in how music therapy can help people with dementia and mental illnesses.
