MHA Music Therapy Team Win LaingBuisson Award

Our Music Therapy Team has won the prestigious LaingBuisson Excellence in Dementia Care Award for its work with music therapy and dementia.

The awards were announced at a gala event in London on Wednesday 11 November at the prestigious Lancaster Hotel. The awards celebrate excellence in independent healthcare and winning such a prestigious award for our work in music therapy is great recognition of how MHA has endeavoured to improve the quality of life for older people.

Lead Music Therapist Ming Hung Hsu, together with Music Therapists Michael Fulthorpe and myself, attended the event to accept the award which was presented by Michael Portillo. MHA was one of 13 other candidates that were shortlisted for the award, making it the most hotly contested category of the evening.

The evening began with a champagne reception in one of the large ballrooms in the Lancaster hotel where there was a buzz of excitement and anticipation from all involved. This was followed by a delicious lamb dinner, before the announcements were made. I think we all felt genuinely surprised to have won such a prestigious award, especially as there were 13 other candidates in our group. We all felt immensely proud as we walked on stage to accept the award on behalf of all the music therapists at MHA.

Winning this award means a great deal to the music therapy team at MHA and should also be seen as an important step to raising  the profile and awareness of music therapy within healthcare environment  in the UK.
