Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Training (Fully booked)

BAMT is proud to present a one day training opportunity for music therapists and professionals working in the field of NICU practice.

The National Institute for Infant and Child Medical Music Therapy offers specialised evidence-based training for providing music therapy clinical services in Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU). Persons who complete all 3 phases of the training receive a certificate and the designation NICU-MT. This presentation of the Institute comprises one of the 3 requirements for this specialised training and will consist of 8 CMTE hours of intensive classroom training in the medical and developmental needs of premature infants.

This lecture component of NICU-MT training builds upon the basic competencies of a qualified music therapist and teaches information necessary for effective clinical practice as an interdisciplinary team member in the NICU providing physician-referred MT interventions. Content of the course teaches information about foetal developmental milestones and needs, medical problems and needs of premature children in NICU care, uses of music to provide individualised, family-based, developmentally appropriate MT and development of NICU based clinical programs and funding.

Outstanding in her field, Dr Jayne Standley will be visiting the U.K. to offer this one day course to qualified music therapists and interested MT students.
Participants will be required to be familiar with Dr Standley’s book ‘Music Therapy and Premature Infants’. The experience promises to be informative and highly relevant to those working in this field.
