As therapists, we have ignored the fact that our clients of colour present us with different challenges than the Eurocentric, western lens of psychotherapy, psychodynamics and therapeutic interventions have been based on. In an effort to begin a conversation about the decolonisation of the therapy space, Amy invites us to look at therapy through a wider lens, taking in the multifaceted experience of our clients in ways that have been ignored for too long. Over the day we will look at how race impacts our client of colour and how we can think holistically and innovatively in providing appropriate therapeutic support using clinical examples and her research.
Amy is a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist with extensive NHS specialist psychotherapy experience and is a consultant to the NHS where she supports the redesign of mental health care across the country. She is the Mental Health Lead for the Cambridge Medical Academy (Cambridge University Biomedical Campus), where she trains a global network of 800+ doctors and nurses, through a global health exchange in mental health. Her research on improving access to mental health has been published internationally and she lectures on the Southampton University PhD and MSc programmes.
